ETSI EN 300 220-2 v3.3.1: Prepare for the compliance of your SRD radio equipment

A new version of the ETSI EN 300 220-2 standard is now available at LCIE Bureau Veritas laboratories!

LCIE’s radiofrequency (RF) laboratories now conduct testing in accordance with the new version ETSI EN 300 220-2 v3.3.1, applicable to Short Range Devices (SRD) operating in frequency bands between 25 MHz and 1 GHz.

This regulatory change particularly affects numerous devices operating at **169 MHz, 433 MHz, and 868 MHz**, which are widely used in fields such as IoT, connected sensors, home automation, remote meter reading, industry, and smart cities.

A regulatory transition to anticipate

Version ETSI EN 300 220-2 v3.3.1 has already been applicable for CE marking purposes since December 2025.

Its adoption will become mandatory upon its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union (JOUE)—scheduled for implementation in June 2027—at which point the use of the previous version will be prohibited.

Manufacturers, designers, and distributors of the relevant radio equipment therefore have a strong interest in preparing for this transition in advance to safeguard future market launches and the renewal of their certifications.

Key changes in the ETSI EN 300 220-2 v3.3.1 standard

This new version introduces several significant changes affecting testing campaigns:

  • Enhanced testing of receive (RX) performance
  • Mandatory validation via measurement of RX performance (previously based on self-declaration)
  • Modification of frequency and modulation width stability tests
  • Harmonization of the temperature range with future ETSI standards applicable at the European level
These changes may require additional testing for equipment already evaluated according to the previous version (v3.2.1).
